All of the past newsletters, as well as pictures and all sorts of
other good info can be found on their website:  www.empeg.com

I think, though, that the history behind the empeg is no longer
available.  To summarize, the two guys who designed the empeg are the
same two guys who build one of the first homebrew units, a biscuit-
sized i86 board they crammed into an unused (!) space in one of the
guy's Miata.  They are generally credited as one of the first few
who ever put a Linux box in a car to play mpgs.

Given the recent price drop of car units, I was about to abandon my
own plans until I discovered a complete 2.6 gig Tiger dataset of all
US roads.  With a little bit of extra software and a GPS, you can add
a complete navigation package for about $100 more in hardware.
