To summarize, the two guys who designed the empeg are the same two guys who build one of the first homebrew units, a biscuit- sized i86 board they crammed into an unused (!) space in one of the guy's Miata. They are generally credited as one of the first few who ever put a Linux box in a car to play mpgs. Given the recent price drop of car units, I was about to abandon my own plans until I discovered a complete 2.6 gig Tiger dataset of all US roads. With a little bit of extra software and a GPS, you can add a complete navigation package for about $100 more in hardware. -p.
