i'm not sure who announced that my email address was a tech support line, but i'm suddenly getting lots of messages like the one below. if no one minds, i'll just start forwarding them to the list; i just don't have time to deal with them. ------- start of forwarded message (RFC 934 encapsulation) ------- From: "John J. Cruz" <casacruz@REMOVEME.bellatlantic.net> To: jeff.covey@REMOVEME.pobox.com Subject: Conflict between Guile versions Date: Sat, 02 Oct 1999 09:09:24 -0400 Hi Jeff, I'm a recent convert to Linux. I started with rh5.2 and quickly move to rh6.0. As an electrical engineer I'm very interested in Electronic Design Automation. So when I found gEDA I quickly installed it. As in all non pre planed projects problems arise. Can you help me? Thank you. Q1. I installed the gEDA program via the rpm and from GNOME (rh6.0 installed). Guile 1.3 is one of the rpms. Unfortunately rh6.0 has a later version that was installed earlier. After the gEDA rpm installation, an error message appeared stating that a conflict exists between the older version and the newer version of rh6.0. Uninstalling Guile I believe removes both versions of Guile because an error message is flashed stating that GNOME needs Guile. My question is how do I remove the older version of Guile (1.3) without removing the latest version? Q2. gEDA (GPL Electronic Design Automation) has documentation in HTML that when Netscape is initiated to read it, the following message is displayed: Netscape is unable to locate the server keyword.netscape.com Warning: the following hosts are unknown: home.netscape.com home6.netscape.com internic.net I strongly suspect that this problem is cause by the fact that my Linux Sys is not connected to the internet. (I'm sending this email via the MS environment and the winmodem.) The PPP environment is setup. My question is how do I correct this problem. Thank you all for your help, jjc ------- end ------- -- |----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | jeff covey jeff.covey@REMOVEME.pobox.com http://pobox.com/~jeff.covey/ 410-669-4926 | |----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | i'm not an actor, but i play one on tv. | |----------------------------------------------------------------------------|
