I just got a ata 100 hard drive and a Promise ATA 100 contoller card. When I went to install Gentus 3.0, I got a message stating that there no drives detected. Do I have to install linux onto a drive connected to to IDE slots on the motherboard? How can I install linux and have my new drive be the only drive?

at least maybe not with red hat. it did for me with mandrake 7.1. after a
little bit of tweaking, performance was pretty good too.
/dev/hde:

[root@gatekeeper bhinz]# hdparm -tT /dev/hde
/dev/hde:
Timing buffer-cache reads: 128 MB in 3.49 seconds = 36.68 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 64 MB in 4.97 seconds = 12.88 MB/sec
i have seen as high as 15+ on the buffered disk reads. it was somewhere around
5 without any optimizations.
