⚠️ Important Club Announcement ⚠️
Due to recent infrastructure instability and after careful review, the UMBC Linux Users Group will be undergoing an immediate rebrand and systems overhaul.
Effective immediately, we are now the: ☭ Red Star Users Group (RSUG) ☭
In alignment with this change, all club systems will be migrated to a secure, centrally managed environment based on Red Star OS; a carefully curated Linux distribution designed with security, control, and consistency in mind.
This decision comes after yesterday’s infrastructure outage, which has been formally reclassified as:
“an unsanctioned demonstration of decentralized system failure”
Key changes include:
- Standardized desktop environment (no customization necessary or permitted)
- Cryptographically signed wallpapers (tampering will be noticed)
- Replacement of “sudo” with a more community-oriented approval process
- External internet access will be limited to the Kwangmyong intranet
- Approved resources will be mirrored internally
- Independent system configuration is discouraged for your convenience
Next Week’s Meeting: Join us for a deep dive into Red Star OS, including its architecture, security model, and what we can learn from highly controlled computing environments.
Attendance is mandatory*
*mandatory in spirit
